I can't speak to the other 6 states, but in GA the fake electors met in the actual state capitol. My friend is the journalist under subpoena by Fani Willis. He recognized one of them, followed him into a room at the capital with his phone, and asked "Hey guys! What's going on here?"

That's the most honest summary of the situation that I've read so far - with or without jokes!

This is your perfect article. It describes exactly how I felt about the charges (not really wanting to bother to read about them or what anybody's opinion was) while helping me actually understand the generalist, everyman gist.

Fantastic summary! I forwarded it to my Mom since she's having difficulties wrapping her cranium around the charges. I expect to have to explain that Ballsweat Arizona isn't a real town any minute now...

Good article--but I thought the Garret Hobart jokes were excessive.

I'm unhappy to report that I am far less convinced that there is a strong case here. For context, I do think the strongest case against DJT to-date is the classified documents case in Florida.

Why am I so less convinced about the strength of this case? Because of the evidence, actually. The evidence that we now know about includes all kinds of documents and strategies developed by unindicted co-conspirators of how DJT could *potentially* overturn the election results in such a way that *may* get Supreme Court approval, but probably not.

Given this "advice" from his colleagues, DJT's defense (which, btw, only needs to be as good as convincing a single juror that he's "not guilty" -- vs. being completely innocent) will once again involve DJT being the hapless victim of horribly-bad architects of these plans. Under this defense rubric, every single thing DJT did was "simply trying to do what he was told by the experts he should do." The defense could go as far as to say "I mean, c'mon now: the guy's experience was a talk show host! What does he know about this stuff? He has always relied on experts around him to navigate this crazy job, and this is no different. Donald Trump is a *victim* of bad actors surrounding him. Sure, there were some telling him that this was bad/wrong/etc., but others were encouraging him to push forward with verve! Who's to say which expert he should have listened to?? If you want to find someone guilty of these crimes, don't give these unindicted co-conspirators a free pass. Go press charges against these bad dudes."

You see, DJT's lifelong skill has been to be dumb/clueless/removed enough to never actually be (or at least legally appear) responsible for anything that's ever happened. This is why it's the people around him that have gotten in trouble with the law, while he just watches from his little bird house.

I suspect the same game plan he's always deployed will be deployed once again, and, once again, our legal system will demonstrate that it's not designed well to handle the, ermmmm, unique kind of individual DJT is.
