Jeff I'd honestly be lost without your humor - it makes so much of this nonsense bearable. Thank you!

Another thing that may hasten the return to business as usual: the assassination attempt already feels like old news, what with the Aileen Cannon ruling and the J. D. Vance vice-presidential pick pushing it down a few notches. (And Vance’s raging assholery—“the UK, since Labour just took over” is “the first truly Islamist country that will get a nuclear weapon”—should jumpstart that return.)

Agreed! I wrote this yesterday, and by yesterday evening I already felt like the news had moved on.

Which is natural. No one seems to have changed anything. No one has been fired, resigned or seemingly altered. This is like an Olympic gold medal dive with a perfect score. Breathtaking to behold and leaving now ripples at all.

No, no, no. A number of us learned after the Gabby Giffords shooting not to jump to conclusions and not to try to use a tragedy as a points-scoring exercise.

No one is to blame in either case except for the random nut-jobs who pulled the trigger. Not social media, not guns, not rhetoric.

We don't need gun control, or rhetoric control, we need crazy people control.

"incentivised" with an S, Jeff? Really!? That's toning things down?

(For the record this was a dig at your cultural appropriation of a Canadian, not a grammar thing.)

The contrast between Trump's defiance in the immediate aftermath of the shooting and Biden's quip about settling things at the battle box couldn't be more stark.

It's rare to have someone nearly killed and feel like "he got what he deserved", but there are few people who more clearly called for the violence that he experienced. Damn shame that pundits aren't allowed to tell the true story of this being an entirely unsurprising outcome.

I distinctively remember him in 2015 suggesting that maybe the 2nd amendment people can do something about Hillary if she gets elected

So clearly he does not object in principle to a staunchly right wing partisan with a rifle shooting a politician deemed to be a threat to liberty; he merely objects to the role he was assigned to play.

Democrats and Republicans both need to start talking about what they will be doing to make our country better, not just why our country would be so much worse with the opposing Party in control. Below is my small effort to do that...

Is this really surprising? There's so many mass shootings we don't even notice anymore. Lot's of unstable people out there and alot of them have guns.....

I really appreciate this, your humor made me chuckle through my sadness and cynicism, and I needed that. So thank you, Jeff. I’ve been thinking the same thought, this brief moment of civility won’t last.

And truly, I will spend as much time as I possibly can reminding people of how quickly we threw civility back in the dirt in exchange for whatever the hell we’ve decided is “better” for our side

There's already a t-shirt out with that photo of Trump bravely exposing himself and the secret service to more bullets. Underneath it says Trump 1 Democrats 0. Cool, huh?

So, you don't think there's a chance of a prolonged cooled-off period by Trump? :)
