In a completely different Substack comment thread today, someone ssaid that we remember wars but not diseases. It struck me that winning a war takes language and communication and memory, whereas we have immune systems to remember the diseases for us.
A breath of fresh air! As for selling out, I cannot possibly pay for all the substacks I enjoy. By all means, read an ad if that pays your bills. As for your analysis, I am cheering loudly for your points on tradeoffs, it has been a pet peeve for years. I do not share your enthousiasm for the ‘vaccine’. I had my two shots, after doing a careful risk/benefits analysis. Fat old woman, albeit without comorbidities, not prone to allergic reactions, and willing to take one for the team. However, the more I learn, the less I trust. The good doctors of the Front Line Covid Critical Care alliance are my heroes. Indeed, old divisions between Left and Right are breaking down. I am a lifelong Leftie and find myself politically homeless these days.
Bravo! I could have used this episode of your show back in 2020 . . . but time travel is distressingly (and fortunately) impossible . . .
One little nit-picky thing (but it is in the spirit of your admonishment to face up to unpleasant realities), you might wanna revisit that wind power being worth a few dead birds opinion . . . apart from considering how very unlikely a scenario of even one housecat managing to bring down very many endangered birds of prey is, the effectiveness of wind power at meeting our power needs is also very much in question (in fact, as you will find talking to many brainiac types interested in physics, or as Bill Gates let slip recently, wind power - together with solar - is laughably inadequate as a substitute for "nonrenewable" sources of energy).
I invite you to open your heart and mind and spend a little time listening to Michael Shellenberger . . . his appearance on the Mike Rowe podcast actually harmonizes well with many of your more eloquent observations about the human condition
BTW, love your book! And am happy to listen to you sell coffee, too.
Michael Shellenberger's Punk Rock Moment (Ep. 271)
In a different article , Jeff compares cats to Pol Pot in relation to the millions of birds they kill plus less birds will die from wind power than a too hot planet.....

Uh, respectfully, being fat and old is a comorbidities situation.....
