It is *absolutely* appropriate to dunk on stupid teenagers who broadcast their dumb opinions--without constant reminders that their opinions are wrong and worthless, those kids will grow up to be NYT staffers who demand editorial resignations for publishing a sitting U.S. Senator.
Based on that photo, I totally get why people believed Johnny could turn himself into an old man. He looks a Southeast Asian version of George Burns.
I'm curious as to how he did the transformation. It would so of be like how Billy Batson transformed into Shazam (nee Captain Marvel), though instead of shouting, "Shazam!", I imagine it would be, "Oh my sciatica!"
Love this - I'm always fascinated by people who would never let a kid drive them down the street, but suggest that the kid's opinion should be trusted in any and all other matters.
Amusing look back at history but not sure what movement this applies to in the present day? Trying to prevent environmental collapse? To prevent Palestinians from getting killed en masse? (Both defensive and not offensive postures) These aren’t led by children at all
He provided three contemporary examples - Greta, Sunrise, and the Parkland kids. There are plenty of responsible adults in the climate and gun control movements, but they've decided to celebrate and platform these kids as their moral leaders. The leader of Brady or Moms Demand is not on the cover of Time.
If you think stanning bin Laden is a good way of protecting Palestinian life, you have the judgment of a particularly dense 15-year-old.
I would love to be able to just see a year of these kids lives. The modern ones. I imagine most of these are the direct result of massive over-parenting and coddling. You know the type. The molders. The ones who are going to shape their kids. Helicopter parents.
It’s never the kids of like po’ dunk trailer park parents. Those kids have to learn that life isn’t fair at a pretty young age. That’s called gaining perspective. These young prophets have no perspective. They’ve never been wrong or challenged in a personal way. Pats on the head and “oh my how profound” coming from adults in their lives that should be better. There are more ways to abuse your child than the obvious ones.
I’m often reminded of this scene from the big kahuna. Right at the end in a great monologue by Danny devito. It actually explains a lot about youth.
Hahaha. So good. Humans are very bad at learning from history, especially when they haven’t experienced it. Smart people can do the mind-transfer and learn from it.

What's even worse is an obese, 77 year old man who never outgrew his toddler mind.
Randi Mayem Singer said it so well: Donald Trump is what happens when you don’t discipline a toddler until he’s 74 years old.
That doesn’t narrow it down as much as you might think 🤭

Mao's Cultural Revolution.
We are seeing an updated version of it today.
The most important thing I learned from this essay is that Karens are an ethnic group...
Oh, also and that for some bizarre reason, humans are really susceptible to tricking themselves into thinking kids can be the messiah.
I thought the whole "Children's Crusade" thing was a bit. Its not. Its so very much not.

Don’t forget the Khmer Rogue, Pol Pot was an adult, but he had squads of 12 year olds w/ AK-47s running things.

Okay Leora, I think you spend too much time on the internet and not enough time trying to make change happen! 😂
"The “wise child” trope is pretty damn obnoxious when it appears in a movie"
You saw "The Sea Beast," too?
Go-Gurt is just funny.

Not sure I agree when I play back the tape- “smart” people “learning” from history have caused quite a lot of problems in history.
I guess we all live and learn until don't. :-)
