Progressives Increase Influence in Democratic Party by Demanding Less-Stupid Things
Let's hope this trend continues!
Left-leaning Democrats love Tim Walz! The head of one progressive activist group called him “the anti-elite candidate,” while another said “It just feels so different and unexpected not to be let down and to be actually excited by a politician’s choice.” (note to Democrats: All your pandering to the progressive left has apparently already been forgotten.) Even the Democratic Socialists of America super-helpfully backed the pick:
Gee thanks, DSA! Maybe Walz can also get the backing of the Dog Fuckers Of America and the United Brotherhood Of Subway Masturbators — that will surely impress swing voters in Georgia! The good news is that in reality — a place socialists rarely visit — the DSA has little influence in the Democratic Party. To wit: They spent this week aggressively supporting Cori Bush, who lost her primary race on Tuesday. For the 64,284th day in a row, socialists’ claim of an imminent revolution is overblown.
Walz is a strange choice to be the new progressive “it” girl. True, he has a some left-leaning accomplishments, like a bill requiring electric utilities to be carbon free by 2040 and a program that gives free college to low-income Minnesotans, including some undocumented immigrants. But he has centrist accomplishments as well. When he was in Congress, he supported stricter screening for refugees, voted for the Keystone XL pipeline, and had an “A” rating from the NRA. The difference between Walz’s views on Gaza and Josh Shapiro’s views on Gaza appears to be a matter of rhetoric, not substance. If leftism was salsa, with the spicier flavors representing more extreme views, Walz seems to be “medium hot”, not “rectal Holocaust”.
