Are Black Republican Candidates Doing a Performance Art Piece About DEI?
If this is some Andy Kaufman shit, it’s genius
Recently, Minnesota Senate candidate and obvious crazy person Royce White got into trouble for old tweets saying that “the bad guys won in WWII”. When USA Today gave White a chance to de-crazy his statement a smidge, White declined, saying "I said what I said, I said the bad guys won in World War II and they did win." White — or, perhaps more accurately, the disease that inhabits White’s prefrontal cortex — then elaborated, saying "neither the Allied forces nor the Axis powers won or lost the war." He continued: “There was a group of people who benefited from all the institutions that sprang out and sprang up after World War II,” and clarified that the group he’s talking about is "globalists". And with that statement, White may have achieved Peak Hot Take, because the hottest take possible truly might be: “The winner of World War Two was the Jews”.
Incredibly, this was the second time in a month that a major GOP candidate got on the wrong side of World War II rhetoric. Old posts believed to belong to North Carolina gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson were found on a porn message board, and in those posts, the poster said he “would take Hitler over any of the shit that’s in Washington right now.” He also called himself “a Black Nazi” and engaged in other rhetoric that I think is fair to call “boner-killing”. It was a rare case of content being too inappropriate for a porn message board, and yet another case of life imitating 30 Rock imitating a terrible sketch show.
Both White and Robinson are Black. Which brings the number of obviously insane Black Republicans to recently run for statewide office to three — Herschel Walker, who almost won a Senate seat in Georgia two years ago, is the third. That’s a high number given that there are so few Black Republicans. And if we expand the category from “crazy” to “unserious and/or ethically compromised”, then recently-prominent Black Republicans on the list include Herman Cain, Clarence Thomas, and Ben Carson. What’s going on? I think it’s pretty obvious what’s going on, so allow me to lay out a theory and you can decide if you agree.
